<DIV><BR></DIV>Thanks Ken & Casey. Sounds like FON doesn't have the
altruistic motivation that we share. What I understand is the their
basic model relies on hundreds of small home network nodes stitched together,
blanketing the area, providing WiFi/Internet access. Add to that the
Seattle Fire Departments are all connected with fiber optics and most of the
government buildings. As a result it seems a large part of the Seattle
area is poised to be able to be WiFi/Internet connected.<BR><BR>I was a board
member of the Washington Association of Telecommunication Officers and
Advisor, the membership is primarily of those who represent municipalities in
their Cable TV franchises. We have had presentations from both the City
of Spokane and the Columbia Rural Electric Association, both who have
implemented WiFi in their fire departments and very large areas of their
communities. The fire departments are now interested in integrating
RFIDs and WiFi to maintain real-time inventory of their equipment, personnel
and triage of victims.<BR><BR>Has anyone references of other fire departments
implementing WiFi?<BR><PRE class=moz-signature cols="72">Please advise, stay well. Chuck

to other fon nodes, and they charge non foners to use any fon enabled ap. My
opinion is that their motivation is not in the right place to be of help
to community wireless. Its a similiar concept to what sputnik tried to do.
