ZyDas1201

This one is on amazon for sale 40$ and approved as working ZyXEL ZyAIR B-220 - Network adapter - USB - 802.11b http://linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/

Linux drivers for this chipset are available at http://linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/. The forums are the best source for finding out what the latest version of this driver is.

But these not workin in BridgeMode. There is AP mode in windows drivers that work with broadcom client card on my HP9005. On the specs of the chipset is writen that it also support WDS but I cant find it. All wep/wap and other security is supported. Great coverege with original antenna. Also there is hidden config menu in utility program with lot of tests an power boost and posibility to have 14 channels. [dj-bobr] To activate "14 channels" mode, you have to edit EEPROM contents and chane value "Available channels" to 1FFF. [/dj-bobr] I have one of these tings working for around 3 mounts non-stop. And lookin around to buy some Zydas zd1211 - 802.11g that also have GNU Linux driver /may be soon OpenBSD driver/ bridge will work on windows - there is some program that came with drivers.

I finaly get one of ZD1211 things but it hung in "ap mode" and don't work with my WRT54g ver.2 - may be bad windows drivers. windows drivers are signed by some named KUMA and I cant trak versions sinse there is not download section on http://www.zydas.com.tw or any change log and nothing in bug section.

If anyone know haw to run ZD1211 in Professionl mode write here. For zd1201 edit the ZDConfig.ini and remuve delate ; from ;Release_Mode=611 to enter in "Super Secret Mode" :)

On SF.NET some gues are trying to organize and make their driver from "original" linux driver "found in the net" here is the link : http://sourceforge.net/projects/zd1211/ . The driver is beginning to work and also supports powerpc platform. This "original" GNU zd1211 driver is based on something called zd1205 - may be oldest ZyDAS chipset zd1201 or zd1202 Who know?

May be more luck from here : http://www.dalerahn.com/~drahn/resume.txt

"Senior Programmer Apr 2004 - Oct 2004 Contract position with Whywire Inc. Developed driver for 802.11 card based on Zydas chipset for OpenBSD. Zydas is mostly compatible with Lucent/Prism, with downloaded firmware. Ported, then rewrote an 802.11F (IAPP, WiFi Roaming) system for OpenBSD, this allows multiple OpenBSD Access Points to work together to allow seemless WiFi coverage over a large area."

At this time, Symbol, Zydas, and Atmel have opened their firmwares so that OpenBSD can redistribute them. More here :http://kerneltrap.org/node/4118

If any one have links to windows drivers for this devices let post links here. List of the devices with zydas chips will help too.

Also might want to check out this http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index.php?Installation program for using windoze drivers under linux

Working Linux driver may be found on http://warder.ath.cx:81/contact/projects.php. If someone test it lets write here.

I'm not sure how to work the wiki so if someone could please take the info underneath, make it its own topic, and delete this sentence it might make my addition more helpful to others.

The Airlink 3025 USB dongle that has been selling at Fry's for <$20USD for some weeks now has the zd1211 chipset in it. I'm in Portland OR, so I do not know if the Fry's that might be near anyone else or the Outpost.com Fry's site has the same deal or stock of the item. You might be able to buy it directly from Airlink or at least get a pointer to a supplier from their website. http://www.airlinkplus.com/wireless/awll3025.htm

There is a project on sourceforge that just released source for it and I think there's a couple binaries floating around. http://sourceforge.net/projects/zd1211/

I would like to see it work on the PowerPC, but I have yet to investigate what changes need to be made, if any, to get it working on that arch. I intend on using it with my KuroBox (a NAS shell that runs on linux, $160USD + shipping) to make a wireless file server. http://revogear.com/

Here is the link that helped me. http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=3084

I think this would be a great addition to any linux distribution as these things are hella cheap. I think I saw them on sale for $14 USD one week.
