The WRK54G is stripped-down version of the LinksysWrt54g wireless router, included with a wireless PC card in the WKPC54G kit. Unlike the WRT54G, however, it includes a Marvell-based chipset, one antenna, and is incompatible with the various firmware hacks. If you want to run third-party firmware, get a WRT54G or WRT54GS instead.
Rumor: New dual-band, 11g routers coming from Linksys?
I don't see how this is anything like the WRT54G. No sign of linux in the firmware. -- Taral
- The WRK54G which is a cut down version of the WRT54G inthe WKPC54G package, now has an EUinitial firmware release under its belt.
New firmware version? v1.56.01 EU
The changelog says this is an initial release though the US firmware has been updated already. and is on version 1.55.02 so there should be some changes with this firmware already.
it can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/firmware/WRK54G_1.56.01_EU.zip
It comes in three versions, 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. I have version 1.1 running firmware 1.58.03. The thing is very buggy and needs daily power cyclings. Not very happy with it.
Added: Is this router/switch only 10mb/s as well??? I am unable to attain anything above that speed on hardwire...
Thanks for the helpful information, I have this router too and it has been a nightmare. Constantly have to cycle the power to get a few minutes of use. Constantly drops signal, and I know my notebook is good because it works great everywhere else. Makes trying to browse the internet with my WII an exercise in frustration. Crap like this is why I'm never buying Linksys again.
