Purpose
SnowNet is the name for our future regional wireless infrastructure. SnowNet will eventually connect other communities (and potentially other CommunityWirelessNetworks) to the SeattleWireless network using tall buildings, mountain tops, and other facilities.
SnowNet is a network independent of the internet and telecommunications infrastructure. It can be used for day-to-day data transmissions, emergency services, and data intensive, low latency applications such as VoiceOverIP and VideoConferencing. SnowNet will also carry amateur radio traffic (Part97OverPart15) providing autopatch functionality to remote sites, Voice repeater links, Amateur Television video links, and high speed links for data packet networks.
Currently, MtBaldi is part of SnowNet, with the ability to connect SeattleWireless to Tacoma and other SouthEnd communities. Provisions are being made to access eastern washington and other locales.
If you live in an eastern washington community and wish to be tied into this network, let us know.
There has been interesting talk about a PortlandToSeattle link.
