If you see that a story on slashdot has linked to the seattlewireless site, please do the following:
- Ensure that the images are being loaded from a different system. If this can't be done in a short time, edit the page to remove the graphics for the time being.
It's been proven that the server can handle numerous slashdottings, provided that there are no graphics.
Get the graphics up on a different box. Email KenCaruso , MattWestervelt, EricJohanson, CaseyHalverson and the Development MailingLists. If you have access to a fast pipe & can get them online, do so. Expect 800 requests/second max. If the graphics are 500k, you are in trouble. Consider resizing the graphics for the time being, if it's possible.
Watch the page directly linked from Slashdot, and the homepage. The cluebies on Slashdot who have never seen a wiki generally feel the need to play. Dont mind them. See WikiFoo for how to defend the wiki.
* "Locking down" the wiki during prime slashdot time by restricting changes to authorized users is also an option. This avoids having to constantly monitor and change the wiki around.
* While locking down the wikki is an option, keep in mind that anyone who may want to say something that could be of real value will be muted while the page is locked down. I think actively defending the wiki is a good teambuilding excercise and would recomend it to anyone.
