We tested a bunch of antennas, both known "store-bought" antennas and some homebrew designs. We tested an 8db Omni, a 24db Dish, two can antennas (a stew can and a Peppridge Farm Pirouette can) and a really nifty aluminum slotted waveguide.

We tested with two lucent cards, one in a Linux laptop (Station A) and the other in a Windows laptop (Station B). We got the numbers from the Lucent site monitor tool on the Windows machine. The tests were done without tripods, at ground level in the parking lot near the MeetingSpace.

Results of the Range Testing:

Some very informal observations:

• The aluminum waveguide is showing about 16db gain
• The can antennas are both showing around 15db gain, and approximately the same noise
