November 2001

November 14, 2001 - TomO'Hern turned up Node116, JeffLaPlante turned up NodeEverett1. BugNodeNumbersOneTooLarge.

KenCaruso has procured a permanent MeetingSpace for SeattleWireless, our Novermber 11th meeting was held there.

RichardLotz is working on a DnsProposal to unify the DNS namespace for SeattleWireless and other CommunityWirelessNetworks.

October 2001

October 23, 2001 - RichardLotz turned up NodeEighthAndFortySecond

June 2001

June 14, 2001 - NateDenning turned up NodeTerrace11th.

We are in the process of setting up a QueenAnne node. More details to follow, but it looks as if cross city (rather than neighborhood) links will be happening soon!

We should probably have another antenna party now that BenSanders is back from Europe. We will probably need a parts list before we can do this properly.

May 2001

Belltown Site 17 node is back up and running after replacing a failed airport with a cisco 640 bridge. 640?! Damn... And here I thought my 350 was nice...

Apr 2001

April ??, 2001 - KenCaruso set up a CxNode at Aurafice and is working on some gateway/proxy software for them. Drop by and check it out.

Mar 2001

Mar 24, 2001 - MattWestervelt has a CxNode built and ready to connect. It will most likely connect with BenSanders shop location in the regrade. KenCaruso came out to test the adhoc stuff and make sure that we could connect with various cards. For some reason we are having problems getting the Cisco 340 to talk to the lucent in ad-hoc. We think it's a driver version issue and will continue checking into it. Shouldn't be too much of a problem since it will be directional to directional at first. Check MattWesterveltCxNode for pictures.

Mar 26, 2001 - BenSanders has been building a DirectionalYagi from our plans. ( see http://seattlewireless.net/docs/ ) and experimenting with enclosures. First endcaps were wood and now he's experimenting with acrylics. He has also been experimenting with cans. Soon we will have a nice parts list.

Mar 27, 2001 - MattWestervelt, KenCaruso, StephenBriggs, RobertCrecine and RobFlickenger all went down to BenSanders' to check out the antenna design and test it against Matt's upstream link. We set up a link with the DirectionalYagi and a Lucent Yagi and then proceded to test out the kit antenna. We ran into some snags with the reflector, but were able to get a link with the antenna. It looks like we need to rework the housing and the reflector can a bit to get something that is reliable and water/weather proof. Ben's location should be able to cover the EastLake and West side of CapitolHill pretty easily once we get an antenna on his roof. Rob took a bunch of pictures at BuildingYagiAntennas

Feb 2001

Feb 1?, 2001 - Teletronics order comes in for MattWestervelt. 2 directionals, 2 omnis and 500' of cable + connectors. Anyone want to do some distance testing? If you are LOS to #1 on the map, let me know.

Feb 2, 2001 - Adding a 9db omni to an airport (AppleAirportMod) makes the client part of BuildingCxNodes very easy. Also boosts your signal by about 100%

Feb 12, 2001 - LMR400 Crimpers have arrived. Time to start cutting cable. see ConnectorsAndCable. See DirectionalPatch and DirectionalYagi for pictures of the antennas.

Feb 13, 2001 - StephenBriggs has set up a Beta CxNode in BellTown at Site 17 apartments. This was done with an AppleAirport performing transparent bridging and Omni External Antenna.

Feb 21, 2001 - MattWestervelt and StephenBriggs staged a BxNode and a CxNode for deployment this weekend. The BxNode in going over to #67 on the map. If you're in Seattle North of the West Seattle Bridge and can see the West end of the bridge you could get link with a decent directional antenna.

Feb 24, 2001 - MattWestervelt, StephenBriggs, PanosKrokos and TheFrenchGuy went to WestSeattle and set up a BxNode. We have some pictures and some information on the setup at WestSeattleBxNodeOne.

(Also see RecentChanges to the web site and MailingLists and IrcNotes for active discussion.)

January 2001

January 5, 2001 SourceForge project is live. Anyone have any code?

January 6, 2001 - Range test by RobertCrecine 11mbps connection at 1.3 miles using a 14dbi yagi and 7dbi omni. Crossing trees and powerlines dropped connection to 5.5 and 2.2 in extreme cases.

January 19, 2001 - Did LOS survey on new MeetingSpace on westlake. Roof pictures at http://www.seattlewireless.net/images/los/meeting_place_pics/

January 20, 2001 - Set up server at new NOC. Should be a bit faster now. pics at http://www.seattlewireless.net/images/colo/

January 26, 2001 - KenCaruso, StuartHale, StephenBriggs and MattWestervelt met with Aurafice CoffeeShop to discuss setup of CxNode and do LOS survey. Pictures at http://www.seattlewireless.net/images/los/aurafice/

December 2000

December 1, 2000 - MattWestervelt, StephenBriggs, KenCaruso and Panos met at the LUX to coordinate the setup at WestSeattle. We will be setting up an Omni on his roof with upstream to belltown (StephenBriggs) initially. Once we get another connection, we will set it up to be a BxNode. We will be building the box and doing some local testing at Matt's house on Monday and once the antenna arrives (next week sometime) we will be moving it into location.

December 4, 2000 - MattWestervelt and StephenBriggs met at Matt's house to work on machine for WestSeattle. Also taking a look at KenCaruso's AlphaMultia and the NetVista for small footprint node machines.

December 10, 2000 - KenCaruso has been in England for the past week and has managed to hook up with some of the folks from ConsumeNet who are working on a similar project. Ken will provide a brief trip report (ComingSoon).

December 15, 2000 - Seattlewireless.net now has an IRC channel, see SeattleWirelessIrcChannel for more information.

December 18, 2000 - The IntraIntra Network Routing Protocol specification has a draft!

December 25, 2000 - Merry Christmas SeattleWireless! As a gift to our users, we have upgraded to MoinMoin Wiki and now have many more formatting features available. You can now do diffs, create basic tables and do many other things. See HelpContents for a list of features.

December 27, 2000 - We now have a SourceForge project. It is at http://seattlewireless.sourceforge.net/ If you need write access, contact MattWestervelt

November 2000

November 18, 2000 - MattWestervelt and StephenBriggs went to WestSeattle to check lines of sight from Panos' house. Looks like we have a winner. We will be building out a BxNode to put here and at Stephen's house. Anyone who wants to help send mail to the MailingLists. If anyone knows anybody that lives in the QueenAnne Highschool's south side, let us know! If we can get that location, we can cover a LOT of area.

October 2000

5 October 2000 - (ClydeMcQueen) Trying to talk about software a bit earlier by starting the ListOfDefinitions and FrequentlyAskedQuestions.

10 October 2000 - MattWestervelt, StephenBriggs, KenCaruso and DanEgnor put together a second antenna! We are continuing to refine and simplify the antenna design. We will be doing distance testing next week. If all goes well, we will put together a nice new AntennaHowTo that uses yankee measuring and our new plans.

12 October 2000 - Meeting today at the home of MattWestervelt. We discussed agenda items, looked at the preliminary NetworkTopology and decided that the next step is to create some BxNode machines and some CxNode machines.

Our goal is to have at least one working ClientNode on each CxNode within the next two weeks.

September 2000

17 September 2000 (DanEgnor) - Added some content to the Web site (including this page!), improved the map (at http://ofb.net/seattlewireless/ ) to handle locations we don't actually have access to yet.

23 September 2000 - MattWestervelt and StephenBriggs built a directional helical antenna! It appears to work. We will know more when we get another directional built and test for distance. It is designed for a 5Km range with no boosting. We also have a lead on MC-CARD connectors to replace the $40 Lucent pigtail. Expect a revised AntennaHowTo soon.

28 September 2000 - (KenCaruso) Printed around 500 stickers at Kinko's using StickerIdeaTwo but replaced the slogan with "Broadband for the PEOPLE!". Will hand'em out at the next meeting.
