CafeRoma (actually called Espresso Roma Cafe, apparently) is a cafe on the NE corner of 42nd and UniversityWay (TheAve), in the UniversityDistrict. It has a sign advertising commerical wireless Internet connectivity through JumpStart. We haven't been able to get that to work yet, and the lady at the counter had no idea such a thing existed. They do have plenty of space and their own box with Internet bandwidth, though.

CafeRoma has stopped offering JumpStart. Or more correctly JumpStart pulled out. Back in August of 2001 they had a very weak node up an running with some kind of CGI authentication through a public web page. There was no charge for the service, but the web page noted that they would be moving towards a subscription. In Jan 02 the site stopped accepting non-paid users. By May or June the node had dissapeared. In July I noted that the signage for JumpStart had been removed.
There are currently three pay-per-use Internet terminals in the back of the store. I believe these are on a wired network. It also looks like the store has been upgrading some of their electrical wiring to be more laptop friendly.
As I explore my options for extending my AP reach, it seems like I might be able to get a shot into the CafeRoma since I am living in the Apartment building at 4135 Brooklyn. I cannot physically see the CafeRoma from my site, but I could shoot through the Church on the corner of 42nd & Brooklyn. My line of sight would place a contemplated "Nally" WG beam over the heads of parishoners in the church, and into the SE corner of the CafeRoma. I may be able to cover the entire Cafe.
Any thoughts?
