* Eric sez: I just got a ThinkPad X20 with all the trimmings, and a Media Slice w/ DVD drive-IT RULES!!! Seriously, although bought retail ThinkPads are rather expensive, the build quality and little extra features are amazing! Unfortunately, I just installed Win2k on it and now I can't use my High Rate (rebranded Lucent Orinoco) card, although drivers are provided!
We are eagerly awaiting the TransMetaThinkPad.
* Stephen Gutknecht: I don't know who wrote this page with the ThinkPad 240 specs, but as of July 20 2001 - it is very out of date. If you want a good deal on an IBM Laptop, check out the eBay stores. I got a brand new ThinkPad T20 p3-700/10GB/128MB RAM/14.1" display for $1309.00 in June 2001. Very nice deal for a very nice laptop. IBM started selling laptops on eBay in early June, they come with full (3 year) warrenty and support. I have been able to get the Orinoco and D-Link DWL-650 to work without any problems under Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Slackware Linux 8.0.
There are MiniPCI adapters using the Lucent chipset, I wonder if the ThinkPad 240 really has "built-in" or jus using a MiniPCI... which almost all ThinkPads support.
IBM's super cool laptop, the choice of SeattleWireless.
