Has anybody had a closer look at the SMC SMC2531W-B high power eliteconnect card? According to the FCC ID, it is actually a XI-330HP from ZCOM/ZCOMMAX featuring up to 23.5dBm (a bit over 200mW). That same card is sold as an 100mW Version here in europe so I assume it must be possible to adjust the output power just by either using the US driver or altering some registers. Does anybody have experience with it? What driver or firmware should I use in order to get the full potential of that card??? I'd be happy to read from you - either here or by email, at dk_at_mobileaccess.de

- SMC2602W (SMW?) card is a SMC2632W PCMCIA plugged into a PCI card that uses the PLX9502 chip. Can you sepparte it or are them welded?

- SMC 2532W-B 200mW product looks quite interesting to say the least, expect pricing arround $80 from major suppliers. may12th for ingram micro I think. might be a zcomax 325hp oem product. The FCC ID (M4Y-0325H) on this card is the exact same as that on Zcomax & Demarc.

- SMC 2655W V.2 can be hacked to firmware Netgear me101, work very well and the power is better, RegDomain can be selected from the Web insterface( it can also be hacked to 2670w_fw124 from SMC but the power is lower and there is no option for RegDomain selection), only original Ez Connect Wireless AP Utility can do firmware update and can find it throu it mac address. So I think that 2670w can be hacked to me101 too.(the architectures are the same)

-- This is exactly what I want to do. But I didn“t find anything in the internet. If somebody is reading this and knows howto, please give a short note here.

-- How did you get the firmware Netgear me101 onto the 2655W V.2 ? With the standard SMC utility there is no way. Did you patch anything? Please comment.

-- had to separate them for installing - is only held by the tape and no problem....

The SMC wireless card can be obtained for 179 USD from retail including the PCMCIA/PCI adaptor.

As delivered there is a warning on the board "DO NOT REMOVED PCMCIA CARD" on a metal guard preventing removal of the board.

It does not contain any ability to add antenna. As such it may not be very useful for the project. The wireless card may be available seperatly but was not available at the retail outlet where one was just bought. (In New York City)

Here is a page detailing how to add an external antenna to this card.

There are 3 different versions of this card, V1, V2, and V3. V1 uses Prism chipset, and V2 and V3 use Atmel.

This card appears to be a D-Link Clone, right down to the "Configuration Utility".

Hardware wise, the WAP-11, SMC, and Netgear ME102 IDENTICAL. So buy the cheapest compatable access point use the SMC firmware 1.4g7, and the ATMEL configurator, crank the output power to 100mw, and now you have the same access point, with all the modes, regardless of who put their stamp on the outside plastic!

I have an SMC ez connect wireless access point 2655w. How do I hook up a http://www.cantenna.com to it? Do I need more hardware?

Here's a link to official linux drivers for the 8211 based chipsets from ADMtek. http://www.admtek.com.tw/download/ADM8211.htm or here (which can be complemented with this patch for monitor mode).

- I personally have not been able to get them working, but I think others have... good luck. - For me it works fine. You need to get 1.05 (latest) version of driver, compile (edit Makefile to match your /usr/src/linux-2.4 if needed) and insert module (insmod -f 8211.o).

You can try full opensource drivers http://aluminum.sourmilk.net/adm8211/ as well. By the time of writing this it works only on kernel 2.6 (but may be patched for 2.4), and doesn't work with rev20 of the cards. Monitor mode works. Help will be appreciated.

Is SMC any good. Thank you for your time? -- You're welcome, and please try not to erase valid contents from the wiki.
