Well, until this page is refurbished, here's something to think about:

Has anybody had a closer look at the SMC SMC2531W-B high power eliteconnect card? According to the FCC ID, it is actually a XI-330HP from ZCOM/ZCOMMAX featuring up to 23.5dBm (a bit over 200mW). That same card is sold as an 100mW Version here in europe so I assume it must be possible to adjust the output power just by either using the US driver or altering some registers. Does anybody have experience with it? What driver or firmware should I use in order to get the full potential of that card??? I'd be happy to read from you - either here or by email, at dk_at_mobileaccess.de

I'm working on it! The SmcCard webpage is coming. Maybe in three or so days. I'm just a Senao user, so what do I know about SMC? Other than my curiousity why the Southern Methodist Church made a line of SMC wireless cards.

Feel free to edit the page! Otherwise, I was planning to make this similar to the one I made for the SenaoCard. Ultimately, the major cards such as Orinoco and Dlink pages might be done up this way to consolidate all the natter.

TO DO:

- quick navigation for SMC oriented items

- description of SMC past and current cards

- official SMC card fcc info

- drivers and software

- external antennae

- hackability of various cards

- - smc vs dlink

- - smc access point

We recently discovered the following annoyance:

The latest SMC2532W-B cards (XI-330HP Prism 3) with serial numbers in the range S33HP56NU0xxxx do not properly support hostAP's "auto" power mode. If you attempt to enable "auto" power, the card instead reports "-43 db" and completely turns off any TX output. The earlier batch from a few weeks ago with serial numbers in the range S33HP55NU0xxxx work properly. Unfortunately both sets of cards report exactly identical firmware etc. under query so no non-cludgy way to automatically detect which card you've installed. We have contacted Xcomax regarding this problem. If anyone else out here seen it and/or come up with a solution please let me know- thanks.
