SMA connector for the NetGear WG511 802.11b/g PCMCIA card

Email: omleg802@fastmail.fm

The goal of this page is to find out what has to be done to add an sma jack to the WG511 card. On the card are two antennas and an U.FL* connector, which is used by the manufacturer to test the card. Several people sugested just to use a PigTail to connect the card to an external antenna. I'm not quite sure if this will work because there are several parts on the card, which have been removed (P1, P11, P13), I assume this was done after testing to activate the antennas.

On the conexant page is a pdf with a block-diagram of the chipset: http://www.conexant.com/servlets/DownloadServlet/102390A.pdf?FileId=1618

I made a picture of the card, the parts are numbered, so you can use the numbers as a reference.

Please feel free to add your ideas to this page (if you have some knowledge about hf electronics)

*The connector on the card is not an U.FL connector, it seems to be a murata connector with integrated switch (SWD - Type), as far as I know there are no cables for this connector only a measurement probe.

see http://www.murata.com/catalog/o30e5.pdf

Q:The card has two antennas as the MA401 has. IC1 is obviously a switch to select the antenna. Which antenna is active, can this be selected by the driver?

Maybe we could look at another prismGT card with an antenna connector to compare the two and see the differences and maybe understand how we can add the connectors on the side of the card .. . . (it's just an idea, i dont know very good electronic :)

I have been away from hf mfg for a few, but not to many years. you said a few components were missing, thats real common. they may have place markings from an earlier model or revision, when the company tests them, they do it with what you have. I just bought the netgear wg511 tonight at staples for $9.00 as a substitue for the card they were out of 12/04/04 joebronco@hotmal.com
