The Linksys WPC11 PCMCIA 30mw card works well with the linux-wlan package. I'm running it on a ThinkPad_1400 connecting to a FreeBSD CxNode (uses Lucent Silver). yo!

The card does not have an external connector, it uses a diversity antenna instead. On average I get ~3mbits/s.

One day I'll crack it open..

PCI Adapters are available..

There is a firmware upgrade available. (THEY REMOVED IT) This firmware upgrade link works as of 1/9/2003

10/23/02 FTP site does not work -- no response to email to them or their webmaster.. anywhere else to get it?

11/25/02 linksys FTP site working.

1/29/03 I guess I am the first to complain, I've been through 3 of these cards and they have all failed after about 6 months use. The replacements Linksys gives under the warranty plan does not include a new warranty. I work long hours with thier tech support but the answer was almost always the same "send it in and we will send you a new one". No reason for the failures. One thing to keep in mind keep up on the firmware, Linksys will give you beta firmware if you ask - but use at your own risk. I am looking to replace all my cards. Any ideas?

2/4/03 - I have not had any failures of the Linksys products, I have a router, wap11, a switch, and a number of wpc11s, Two Vesion 1's and 3 Version 3s. I am not happy with the range, however (replaced with version 1 WPC11 with Version 3 - they are better. There are two sides to the problem, Tx Power and Rx Sensitivity. The newer, WAP11 is now a Version 2.2 which has a hight Tx then the Version 2.6 (check the FCC page under PKW) Version 2.6 is only 37 mw, they want you to get a new booster (93mw) and WSB24-1 is 1.2WATTs!! for the WAP11, Version 2.2 was 70mw. On the WPC11 side, V3 is only 17mw, and Version 31 is 70 mw. I am now looking at the Demarc card (100mw and 200mw and -96dbm Rx Sens.- - and the Engenius Card 100mw and 200mw with -95dbm Rx Sens. I have been advised that the 200mw cards get too hot for Laptop use. (any input would be of help) - they are for use in PCI adaptors. The engenius is about half the cost of the Demarc but the Demarc has a removable antenna. Hope this is of some help. rlstuart@ieee.org.

8/12/03 - I seem to have the "6 months" failure bug. I installed the WPA drivers - the IBM X21 hangs at boot of W2K. I reverted to the *053003.zip drivers and things worked again. Then I installed NetStumbler 0.3.33 on a whim -- WXP and W2K aren't that different -- and it worked!! Now, the card powers up (Power light on, Link blinks regularly about 1Hz) but the Linksys Monitor says WPC11 not active and W2K says "cable disconnected". I have reinstalled the drivers several times, to no avail. What are the magic words to say to Linksys TechServices to expedite solving this problem?

11/8/03 - You simply need to compy the files from the Linksys driver directory \autorun ... copy all the PCANDSx.xxx files and the w32n50.dll ... to the WinNT\system32\ directory. Replace all. tada. -VDH
